All About the Letter Vv {Letter of the Week SMARTboard Activities}

Circle and Find: Have students practice reading environmental print. Use newspapers, junk mail, and/or sales flyers and have them highlight all of the letter Vv’s using a highlighter.

Fill in the Missing Word:  All of your guesses should begin with the /v/ sound like in vase.

I like ice cream. My favorite flavor is ________. (vanilla)
When we moved, our furniture went in a moving ________. (van)
Pumpkins grow on a _________. (vine)
Peas, carrots and corn are __________. (vegetables)

When mother cleans the rug she uses a _________. (vacuum cleaner)

The "V" Box: Decorate a box with the letter "V". Inside the box place items or pictures of items that begin with the letter "V". This also works well if you use pictures, and have each child in turn draw out one picture and tell it's name and what they would do with it.



Acrobatic "V": Divide the children into groups of threes. Have the children in each group lie on the floor and use their bodies to form the letter "V". Let the children in each group trade places and form the letter "V" again, so each child gets a turn at being a different part of the "V".

Circle the Letter Vv: Circle the letter V in the nursery rhyme, “1, 2. 3. 4, 5 I Once Caught a Fish Alive.”

Write the Missing Letter: Look at the picture and write the beginning missing letter.

Vv is for Vet: Help Vet Vickie find her vest by following the upper and lowercase letter V to the vest.

Which One Comes Next? Look at the pattern and finish the pattern.

Which One Does Not Belong? Look at the letters and pictures and put an X on the picture(s) that do not belong.

Let’s Sort by Uppercase and Lowercase Letter Vv: Sort the upper and lowercase letter V onto the matching vests.

Let’s Sort: Feed Vet Vickie by sorting pictures by the beginning /v/. To re-set the self- checking game: Click on ACTIVITY BUILDER>RESET ALL. This resets the game pieces to their original location.

S-A-N-T-A Anchor Chart (Christmas Printable}

Use the S-A-N-T-A Anchor Chart during whole group or small group for students to practice concepts of print to include where to start reading, spacing between words, and return sweep. Students can also segment sentences and find letter and letter sounds.
Directions: Two ways to print have been included. The anchor chart’s original size of 24”x 20” if you have access to a large format printer. Second, is tiled on 8.5”x 11”. Simply print, trim along cut lines, and assemble to 24”x 20”. Recommended to laminate finished anchor chart to use dry erase markers.
