Who Came to School Today? Attendance Toolkit {Superhero Theme}

Teacher Testimonial: A teacher noted that the attendance monitor role initially took a lot of time and teacher guidance. However, by Christmas break, most students could complete the task with little or no intervention. This indicates that the toolkit effectively fosters independence and responsibility over time.

Product Description: The "Who Came to School Today? Attendance Toolkit {Superhero Theme}" is a resource designed to help pre-kindergarten students with their morning routine while promoting print awareness, responsibility, and number sense. Students use name tags to check in for attendance, and the process is monitored by a designated "attendance monitor" from the class.

Components:

  • Name Tags:

    • Each student has a name tag with their name printed on it, which they attach to the attendance poster each morning.
    • This helps with print awareness as students recognize and identify their names in print.
  • Attendance Poster:

    • A visual and interactive tool where students place their name tags.
    • Velcro dots are used to attach name tags, making it easy for young children to handle.
  • Attendance Monitor Role:

    • A designated student checks for uncovered Velcro dots to determine if any students are absent or if anyone forgot to complete their morning routine.
    • The monitor counts the number of students present and identifies any missing name tags.

Pros:

  • Promotes Print Awareness: The use of name tags helps students recognize their names and fosters early reading skills.
  • Encourages Responsibility: Assigning the role of attendance monitor gives students a sense of responsibility and helps them develop leadership skills.
  • Interactive Learning: The hands-on activity of placing name tags and checking attendance is engaging and helps reinforce counting and number sense.
  • Routine Building: Integrates seamlessly into the morning routine, providing structure and consistency for young learners.
